Well, what happened? As we had some wifi issues of our own while doing the proms. John

Hi John, I must say, I have looked up on the Eye Fi Wi-Fi and the marketing of the system reads well. But seeing it in action at Patricks demo, I must say I was very impressed. Patrick is going to write up a more detailed report and publish it here, on the website.

I brought my 2gb Explore card 2nd hand off Kenny Passley after he had spent 6 months trying in vain to get it to work. It took me almost four months but after a few e-mails to Eye Fi helpdesk in the US, I now have it singing over my home network. I’ve also invested in a D-Link DWL-G730AP Wireless Pocket Router, along with friend and colleague, Stephen Bent. The Li-on battery packs are easily sourced from Ebay ( http://www.portablepowersupplies.co.uk/usbliionbatterypack.htm). The company is based in Bromley, so not too far from you. I’m hoping that this combo will give me the same working range as I currently enjoy with my Canon WFT-E1 and my Netgear router.

It seems that Eye Fi are NOW going through a process of taking one step forward and two steps backwards as regards the introduction of their “new” X2 cards. On paper these cards are far superior to their “classic” predecessors. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the X2′s will not work with an increasing number of DSLR camera’s, especially when used in conjunction with any kind of adapter. A comprehensive list of which kit will or will not work with the X2′s can be found on the Rob Galbraith site otherwise be warned before parting with your cash. An viable alternative (might) be found in the new Sandisk Eye-Fi enabled cards which I’ve been advised is based on Eye-Fi’s “Classic” technology. If this is in fact the case, it could be happy daze for someone like me who is currently looking for another “classic” card to backup the one, I’ve already got.
